Our menu reflects the journey that we have made, from offering refreshment to travellers along The Ulster Way to running a busy tea room and craft workshop in the Dromara Hills.
When we started in 1987, we lived and worked down a long lane off the Trassey Track, at the Bank Gate of Tollymore Forest.
We were primarily a craft business making hand loomed sweaters, selling to shops, around the world.
We invited customers into the workshop to see what we made, hopefully to tempt them to order or buy something.
As the lane was part of the celebrated Ulster Way long distance walking route, we did have a substantial ‘passing trade’ opportunity, but of course those out for a walk were not very likely to be also wanting to shop for knitwear!
So we hit on the idea of offering simple refreshment, to lure people off the track and into our place.
There they could have quality home cooked food, surrounded by what we made. We hoped that this would set the seed for the acquisition of a Turnip House sweater at some later date.
